7 - Xian and the terracotta warriors

There are more than 8,000 infantrymen, charioteers and passengers, and cavalry.

Work on the digs continues.

Some of the soldiers were found standing, some toppled by (some archaeologiests believe) Xiang Yu, the general who overthrew the Qin Dynasty. He may have ordered his soldiers to dig up the vaults and destroy the warrior figures.

UNESCO designated the museum a World Cultural Heritage site in 1987. So while it is Chinese heritage, it is heritage too for everyone on earth. Organization, creativity, beauty, purpose, perseverence -- human life uniquely and individually as well as communally expressed... And National Geographic is bringing an exhibition of the terra cotta soldiers to Washington November 19, 2009-March 31, 2010.

Going for lunch near the tomb and its protected dig structures. Noodle whirling.

Tourists come here by the busload and the restaurant can feed large numbers of people. Chung Wah, Coco, and Jola and a lovely vegetable plate.
